A GAG. That’s what this book was for me. While wandering through the bookstore, I picked it up for a sneak peek and audibly gasped. Every random page I flipped to was absolutely insane, I had to get it immediately!
“So Sad Today” is a book filled with personal essays that delve into issues like depression, anxiety, addiction, sex, love, illness, and death. Melissa Broder takes us on a journey through her life, from her childhood through her teenage years and into womanhood, sharing experiences that are intense, raw, and filled with SO MUCH humor. Her struggles with mental health and addiction were present in nearly every stage of her life, I felt like I was learning so much about what a lot of people go through.
Now, some parts of this book can be a bit gross but she’s real for even admitting it ok?! I especially loved the text exchanges between her and her internet lover. They said the most atrocious things, I was laughing and like o.O BUT IT WAS ALSO SO ROMANTIC IDC!! And the creativity of it all?? Like what are yall even talking about!??? How did yall come up with this?!
Foreigner is the word I would use to describe how I felt reading this. Like I’m not supposed to be here and I’m ease dropping on a convo. A lot of it was very shocking to me, but I appreciated that. I gained a new perspective and understanding of people that I wouldn’t have otherwise known.
This book was a very intriguing, hilarious, easy read. I 100% recommend it!!
