Far too often I see people give up on the new hobbies they’ve picked up because they’re “not good enough” … which made me think: when did hobbies become about skill instead of fun?

I don’t engage in hobbies in hopes of becoming the greatest of all time, I do it for fun and you should too! We often stress over whether or not we’re good at something and let that overshadow the reason why hobbies exist. Let loose, have fun. You don’t have to be good at everything and I’d be scared if you were. When I play tennis, roller-skate, dance, sing, I do it because it makes me feel good. Honestly, my dancing is downright horrendous, but I have so much fun that I don’t care, the show must go on! Give yourself grace and allow yourself to simply be without expectations. So, pick up those skates (and guards ofc, safety first!), pick up that paint brush, shake those hips, swing that racket, thread your garment, sing even if your voice cracks! Do anything your heart desires, that’s what I’m doing now. Sudani Diaries is another hobby for me to indulge in and I couldn’t be happier.

One hobby I’m most excited this summer about is swimming! I’ll be swimming as much as humanly possible!!! And I even want to swim at a lake… which I never thought I’d say but honestly, I’m becoming a lake girlie! I swear I’m surprised but the lakes I go to are so beautiful and peaceful, I just love the atmosphere and calm nature. Lakes are not at all dirty and stinky like I thought they were LOL. (at least the ones I been to…)

I also think I might try to advance my cooking skills? It’s my first time living alone since moving into my new apartment this month and I really want to prepare some nice meals for myself. Today I got the groceries I need to make some lemon garlic pasta, I’m excited to make it. Wish me luck!

Anyways, LMK what hobbies you’re enjoying this summer.

  1. I definitely agree I’ve been taking up more hobbies this summer cause it’s been helping me get out the house more and I’ve never felt better

  2. this really does feel like the summer of hobbies! i’ve got no real plans other than trying new things or spending more time on old hobbies :)

  3. I’ve had a recent obsession with tennis lately but I’ve been discouraged by my unfortunate lack of athleticism. Honestly I might try it out and if I like it enough I might even try out for the tennis team freshman year.

    1. thank you!! the pasta was.. interesting. I liked it and CLEARED my plate but it was sort of unusual tasting to me, like i had to get used to it. i think ill just stick to regular tomatoe or alfredo pasta. the lemon garlic pasta was very lemony which is like DUH but apparently it’s not supposed to be? so I may remake it using a different recipe in the future :P

  4. yessss I totally agree. lately ive been *attempting* to crochet and once I get the hang of it I feel it’ll definitely be one of my hobbies. cooking seems fun (and necessary) too!!!

  5. aww this is really cute. i needed to hear this. (coming from someone who was just upset because my drawing didn’t turn out how i wanted it to)
